Tokyo, December 21, 2022 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today that group company Casio Singapore Pte., Ltd. has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Directorate General of Teachers and Educators (GTK) of the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (MoECRT). The memorandum covers collaboration between MoECRT and Casio to establish high school mathematics classes that make use of scientific calculators in Indonesia.
Under its education efforts in Indonesia, Casio has conducted GAKUHAN activities to support classrooms using scientific calculators in the field of education since 2008. These activities have been selected by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as an “EDU-Port Japan” Supported Project, recognizing that they can serve as a model for various efforts outside Japan to support the development of classes that will improve the quality of education.
With the signing of this memorandum of understanding, Casio will work to establish inquiry-based mathematics classes using scientific calculators in the field of education in Indonesia. These classes will focus on fostering thinking skills and problem-solving abilities. In Indonesia, which has adopted a national strategy of developing human resources to meet the needs of new industries, there is a demand for students to learn higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), such as capacities for analysis, evaluation, and creativity. Accordingly, Casio will coordinate closely with the GTK Directorate General, working with local educators to develop teaching materials that make the most of scientific calculators for high school mathematics, and cooperating on training teachers.

The goal is to improve the practical implementation skills of teaching staff. Casio will start with around 1,000 schools, including regular schools and vocational training schools in the Special Capital Region of Jakarta, and will then expand throughout the country’s other provinces. In the future, support will also be provided to assist the teachers who have been trained with practical implementation in their classes.
